Hi, I’m a badminton addict. At least that’s what I’d say if it was an addiction. Luckily, it’s thought of more as a passion, so it’s totally healthy. This passion is shared with many of you. That’s why I started this blog. For other like minded individuals who feel the same way, love the sport and want to know more about it.
As it’s Christmas I would like to give you the gift of diagnosis. For each of the 12 days of Christmas, a symptom that will determine if you have badminton addiction.
Good luck!
- You go to sleep early on a Friday/weekend if you know you have badminton in the morning so it comes quicker.
- Your Youtube history is exclusively professional badminton matches, 60% of which you can lip sync the commentary word for word.
- At some point in your life you have fallen down the rabbit hole that is Badminton Central.
- Professional badminton players stories and news dominate your news feed on social media.
- You play at least three times a week averaging 2 hours per session.
- You criticise the professional players when they’re losing from your bed. While watching on your tablet – eating junk food.
- You go to at least one professional tournament a year to spectate, from day 1 to finals day.
- When people ask you what you did on the weekend at work, you have no other answer than “badminton.”
- You have every flagship badminton racket that came out in the last 10 years.
- When you arrive for matches you look like an ambassador for whatever your favourite brand is.
- You wake up to watch the BWF World Tour Tournaments, even though it’s in a time zone 8 hours ahead of the country you live in.
- You start a badminton blog…the less said about this one the better!
Diagnosis of Addiction
There you go. So if you tested positive for at least half of the above list, you are a badminton addict and I don’t feel so alone any more!
For all of us, this passion grows from somewhere. I first discovered badminton when I was at university and I was 18 years old. For some of us that might seem late, for others they discover the sport later on in their life. No matter the age, sport has an uncanny ability to bring us all together. So thank you for reading my blog and I hope that I can provide you with more interesting content in 2019!
